Castleford Tigers joined the Rugby League in 1926 having previously been a successful junior club and since 1927 has always played home games at the current stadium on Wheldon Road which has been known as The Mend-A-Hose Jungle since 2014.
The Tigers have grown into one of the most famous Rugby League Clubs in the United Kingdom and has consistently produced players who have achieved worldwide status in the game of Rugby League while playing in the famous black and amber colours. 32 players have become Great Britain Internationals and 29 have played for England, plus numerous other representing county and other international countries.
As well as a successful team on the field, the off-field operation boasts a pro-active and forward thinking set up which includes the Tigers Trust, the community arm of the club which has charitable status.
The region has always been, and continues to be a rich nursery of Rugby League talent, competing at the top level whilst being centre of its local community.
International players from the area include legends such as half backs Alan Hardisty & Keith Hepworth, who starred for the club in the 1960's to early 1970's, Malcolm Reilly who made his name at the club before becoming a legend of the game internationally and John Joyner who is the player to have represented the club most with 585 + 28 appearances.
Arguably the greatest achievements in Castleford Tigers history, have been four Wembley Challenge Cup victories in 1935, 1969, 1970 & 1986.

Club Welfare Officer: Richard Tunningley
Posted on: 1st January 2011.
1. Castleford Tigers Rugby League Football Club acknowledges its responsibility to safeguard the welfare of every child and young person who has been entrusted to its care and is committed to working to provide a safe environment for all members. A child or young person is anyone under the age of 18 engaged in any Rugby League activity. We subscribe to The Rugby Football Leagues (The RFL) Safeguarding Children - Policy and Procedures and endorse and adopt the Policy Statement contained in that document.
2. The key principles of The RFL Safeguarding Children Policy are that:
We acknowledge that every child or young person who plays or participates in Rugby League should be able to take part in an enjoyable and safe environment and be protected from poor practice and abuse. Castleford Tigers Rugby League Football Club recognises that this is the responsibility of every adult involved in our club.
3. Castleford Tigers Rugby Football League Club has a role to play in safeguarding the welfare of all children and young people by protecting them from physical, sexual or emotional harm and from neglect or bullying. It is noted and accepted that The Rugby Football League Safeguarding Children Regulation (see The RFL Handbook) applies to everyone in Rugby League whether in a paid or voluntary capacity. This includes those who are volunteers, match officials, helpers, rugby coaches, club officials or medical staff.
4. We endorse and adopt The RFL's Responsible Recruitment guidelines for recruiting volunteers and we will:
All current Castleford Tigers Rugby League Club members who are regularly caring for, supervising, training or being in sole charge of children and young people will be required to complete a CRB Enhanced Disclosure via The RFL CRB Unit. If there are concerns regarding the appropriateness of an individual who is already involved or who has approached us to become part of Castleford Tigers RLFC guidance will be sought from The Rugby football League. It is noted and accepted that The RFL will consider the relevance and significance of the information obtained via The RFL CRB Unit Enhanced Disclosure and that all decisions will be made in the best interests of children and young people. It is accepted that The RFL aims to prevent people with a history of relevant and significant offending from having contact with children or young people. The Rugby football League's Safeguarding Children Policy and Procedures gives us the opportunity to influence policies or practice with children or young people. This is to prevent direct sexual or physical harm to children and to minimise the risk of 'grooming' within football.
5. Castleford Tigers supports The RFL's Whistle blowing Policy.
Any adult or young person with concerns about a colleague can 'whistle blow' by contacting The RFL Safeguarding Team on 0113-237-5013, by writing to The RFL Lead Safeguarding Officer at The Rugby Football League, Redhall, Redhall Lane, Leeds, LS17 8NB or alternatively by going direct to the Police, Children's Services or the NSPCC. Castleford Tigers Rugby League Football Club encourages everyone to know about it and utilise it if necessary.
6. Castleford Tigers Rugby League Club has appointed a Club Welfare Officer in line with The RFL's role profile and required completion of the Safeguarding Children.
The post holder will be involved with Welfare Manager Training provided by The RFL.
The Club Welfare Officer is the first point of contact for all club members regarding concerns about the welfare of any child or young person.
The Club Welfare Officer will liaise directly with the RFL (RFL) Safeguarding Unit and will be familiar with the procedures for referring any concerns.
They will also play a proactive role in increasing awareness of Respect, poor practice and abuse amongst club members.
7. We acknowledge and endorse The RFL's identification of bullying as a category of abuse. Bullying of any kind is not acceptable at our club.
If bullying does occur, all players or parents/carers should be able to tell and know that incidents will be dealt with promptly.
Incidents need to be reported to the Club Welfare Officer in cases of serious bullying the CFA Welfare Officer may be contacted.
8. Respect codes of conduct for Players, Parents/ Spectators, Officials and Coaches have been implemented by Castleford Tigers Rugby Football League Club.
In order to validate these Respect codes of conduct the club has clear actions it will take regarding repeated or serious misconduct at club level and acknowledges the possibility of potential sanctions which may be implemented by the RFL in more serious circumstances.
9. Reporting your concerns about the welfare of a child or young person.
Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility if you are worried about a child it is important that you report your concerns - no action is not an option.
i. If you are worried about a child then you need to report your concerns to the Club Welfare Officer.
ii. If the issue is one of poor practice the Club Welfare Officer will either:
iii. If the concern is more serious - possible child abuses, where possible, contact the (CWO) Club Welfare Officer first, then immediately contact the Police or Children's Services
iv. If the child needs immediate medical treatment take them to a hospital or call an ambulance and tell them this is a child protection concern. Let your Club Welfare Officer know what action you have taken, they in turn will inform the RFL Safeguarding Unit.
v. If at any time you are not able to contact your Club Welfare Officer or the matter is clearly serious then you can either:
NB - The RFL's Safeguarding Children Policy and Procedures are available viawww.therfl.co.uk - click on the 'downloads' under THE RFL, Safeguarding, Downloads, or use the links above.
The policy outlines in detail what to do if you are concerned about the welfare of a child and includes flow diagrams which describe this process.
How to make a referral is also covered in the Safeguarding Policy.
For more information on this contact your Club Welfare Officer.
This policy will be reviewed where?

Castleford Tigers Rugby Football League Club will work with key equity partners and accountable officers within the respective organisations to ensure that all programmes and initiatives are inclusive.
Social inclusion is an important part of community rugby, engaging those who have traditionally had little contact with the game. This can include working with ethnic minorities, in areas of social deprivation or with people with disabilities.
With the facilities, manpower and community engagement enthusiasm Castleford Tigers possesses, we can make a real difference to people in the local area who may otherwise feel socially excluded.

Wheldon Road Stadium first became home to Castleford RLFC in 1927. The ground was originally home to Castleford Town Football Club, with Castleford RLFC taking up home a year after their first season as a senior rugby club (having played the first season as what is now Castleford Lock Lane).
The stadium has a capacity of 12,000, but back in 1935 had a record attendance of 25,449 for a third round challenge Cup match v Hunslet. The stadium has been named the Mend-A-Hose Jungle since 2014.
