Players and the whole community took to social media on Thursday afternoon to share their elation when the news came through from County Hall that the councillors had all voted in favour of the development that could see Castleford Tigers playing in their new stadium from the 2017 season.

Speaking on behalf of his team, captain Michael Shenton said: “I’d just like to say a big thank you to all our fans who showed their support for Five Towns Park. To be at this great club at such an exciting time is pretty special for me personally. I’ve grown up watching and then playing the majority of my life at Wheldon Road so it will be emotional to see us move but on the flip side we are in desperate need of new facilities and to have the chance of playing in the first Castleford Tigers team to play at the new stadium would be awesome.

Shenton added: “Once again a big thanks from me and the team to our supporters for backing this proposal, the development is exactly what the town and Castleford Tigers need to grow.”

Following narrow defeats in the first two Super League fixtures Castleford Tigers travel to St.Helens on Friday night with a point to prove. Tickets and official coach travel can now booked online here and in person at the Tigers Den club shop.
